BRITISH BREEDERS STALLION EVENT 4TH FEBRUARY 2023

Maximo JLBA (aka Max) is a British-Bred PRE Stallion. Born in 2015, he is ANCCE/BAPSH APTO Graded and has been awarded Silver by British Futurity.

Max was bred by JLB Andalusians, who are British breeders of the PRE horse. We are based in Hertfordshire and were established in 2012 to breed PREs in the UK. We focus on the traditional PRE stamp, specialising in breeding PRE horses for temperament, movement and colour. Alongside Max, we also own Aztec Iconico, the UK’s first-born PRE Cremello Colt and ANCCE/BAPSH APTO Graded Stallion. Both Stallions are available for covering this season.

Max is by Habanero XLI, out of our own foundation APTO Graded Picos de Europa PRE mare, Inquieta LXIII. Sadly no longer with us, Habanero was internationally renowned and competed in both Spain and in the UK. He is still one of only a handful of Black Calificado (or Spanish Elite) PRE Stallions in the world. At the last count he had sired over 160 foals, many of them champions in Spain. Born in 1999, Habanero was imported into the UK in 2009 and was shown in hand and ridden. He won numerous titles at both showing and dressage, including Functionality Champion at the GB PRE UK Championship Show and is one of the only PREs to have represented Great Britain at International level in PSG and Inter 1.

Habanero and Max are both descendants of traditional PRE Yeguada Militar bloodlines. They would originally have been bred for bull fighting. Given their bravery and temperament, these lines would have also been used for Spanish Military services.

Max was APTO graded with ANCCE/BAPSH in 2018. At the grading, he scored a very high 8 for his walk and was featured in the November 2018 Edition of the British Breeder. In 2019, Max was presented to British Futurity and was awarded Silver. He achieved 85% in the veterinary assessment for his conformation and movement. In 2020, Max was a NEXGEN Young Horse Qualifier and Finalist and placed each time out at affiliated British Dressage (Novice) classes and also at the MCI and Young Horse classes at the MCI Championship show.

In 2021, Max achieved a 1st place in the 6-yr-old stallion class at the 2nd Virtual ANCCE International Morphological Contest (conformation, movement and dressage). He was top of the MCI leaderboard for Young Horse classes and was selected and represented Great Britain in Italy at the MCI Finals, securing a 10th place internationally in the Young Horse classes. Other achievements included returning to NEXGEN for the 6-yr-old Dressage class, the Area Festival Championships (Novice, 5th place) and British Dressage Elite Equine Associated Championships (3rd place).

In 2022, Max was placed 5th overall at level 2 at the MCI National Championship Show scoring 69.167% for his Sevilla test and 71.313% for his Flamenca test. He qualified to represent GB at the MCI Internationals in Belgium. Achieving high placings at the British Dressage Area Festivals, Max went on to place 4th at the Petplan Nationals (FSM, Elementary, with 70.12% and 7th at Medium with 68.28%).

Max has a fabulous temperament. Given his bull fighting bloodlines, he is exceptionally brave and confident. He has a lovely work ethic and has been easy to train to date. Most importantly, his kind nature means that he can be ridden by both the professional and amateur alike. He is also a superb hack and can be ridden out alongside both mares and geldings. Max is a super opportunity for PRE mare owners wishing to preserve the traditional PRE lines. He would also be desirable for any mare owners wishing to breed the more compact dressage horse, or could be suitable as a Showing prospect.
