Due to popular demand and to minimise the number of competitors being balloted, two additional days of competition have been added to Aston-Le-Walls (3).

The British Equestrian World Class Programme is inviting up-and-coming athletes to put themselves forward to be part of the selection process to join the Podium Potential Pathway squad for 2021–2023.

After many months of closure the Bicton Arena team are back and ready to open the Rolle Estate gates to British Eventing competitors on 25 and 26 July 2020.

We are pleased to confirm that a CCI4*-L and CCI4*-S for eight and nine year old horses at an additional Burnham Market Horse Trials, on 17-20 September, has been agreed by the British Eventing Fixtures Panel and approved by the FEI.

Hartpury University and Hartpury College have been allocated the 2022 FEI Dressage and Eventing European Championships for Young Riders & Juniors. The Gloucestershire venue had been due to host the 2020 Championships until they were cancelled in May due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the green light to resume sport in July, entries for the first events will be opening from tomorrow, 24 June on the British Eventing website. If you are planning to make an entry, please take some time to go through the checklist below and read details on some important changes to the entry process.

We were delighted to announce on Friday the fantastic news that British Eventing has been given the green light to resume British Eventing competitions from July. We know that you will have a lot of questions about what you can expect on event when the sport returns, and we hope the following will answer these.

British Equestrian COVID-19 Update - 19 June 2020

We are delighted to announce that British Eventing has received official confirmation from Sport England and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) that eventing competitions can resume.

Following the latest announcements from the devolved governments, there are only limited changes for British Dressage members in Scotland and Wales, but indications are that competition activity will hopefully start just a matter of weeks behind their English counterparts.

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of longstanding eventing supporter and List 2A Judge, Sue Howard. Sue died peacefully on Tuesday 9 June 2020, in her 90th year.

British Dressage and British Showjumping prepare for resumption of activity

This positive news presents both British Dressage (BD) and British Showjumping (BS) with the opportunity to release outline plans for the resumption of sporting activity, when it is safe to do so.

Statement from the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials: It is with enormous regret that we have taken the decision to cancel this year’s Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials, 4 – 7 June, following recent UK Government advice around the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 

It has been another busy week at British Eventing, as the impacts of the restrictions imposed on all of us continue to be worked through.

British youth riders showed consistency across Pony, Junior and Young Rider levels at last month’s Keysoe CDIYJP (13 – 15 March 2020), the first British-based international of the year and the bittersweet last before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic put a stop to the competition calendar.  

The status of the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve in the UK and recent government briefings indicate that a longer period of lockdown is looking increasingly likely.

Following the Government’s COVID-19 public health restrictions and its statement that emergency services are withdrawn from supporting mass gatherings from Tuesday 17th March, we are sorry to announce it is no longer possible to stage Badminton Horse Trials between the 6th and 10th May in any capacity. This cancellation also includes the Science Supplements Cup.

The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) continues to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Britain and around the world.

Event Rider Masters has conducted a full risk assessment of the rapidly evolving Coronavirus Covid-19 situation in line with the recommendations of the relevant health authorities in order to evaluate whether the health and safety of all ERM Staff, Contractors, Organisers, Volunteers, Riders and Rider’s Staff can be assured.

British Dressage would like to reassure members that we are in close contact with our colleagues at UK Sport, Sport England, the Sport and Recreation Alliance and Sports Ground Safety Authority with regards to the ongoing risks and threats posed by the coronavirus outbreak. 

We continue to monitor all government guidance in relation to the running of sporting events in the face of the Covid-19 situation. It has not currently been advised that sporting events in Britain should be cancelled or restricted, and BE competitions will continue to run until the  government advises otherwise. We are aware that that Scotland have recommended that events where more than 500 people are attending should be cancelled from next week.

The first Premier League Show of 2020 has reached its conclusion after five days of top flight competition at Myerscough College in Lancashire (4 – 8 March 2020). Amy Woodhead, Matt Frost and Becky Moody achieved multiple wins whilst Carl Hester and the British bred Hawtins Delicato delivered an outstanding Grand Prix of 80.40%. Streamed live for the first time by Horse & Country TV thanks to their new partnership with British Dressage, H&C subscribers were able to follow the action throughout the show.

Isleham Horse Trials got the 2020 British Eventing season underway, and with it the first full run-through of the new Entries, Admin, Results and Scoring (EARS) system.  

Very sadly, all remaining competition on Friday 5 March, and all competition scheduled to take place on 6 - 8 March has been abandoned, due to adverse weather.

Myerscough College began its Winter Regionals on the 15 February and finally finished on 1 March. Storm Dennis wreaked its havoc on the schedule and many competitors paid tribute to the organisers and their team of volunteers and judges for keeping the show on the road at all.

Eventer Challenge returns to Blenheim even better in 2020

The hardworking team at Myerscough pulled off an historic Equissage Pulse Para Dressage Winter Championship while battling the toughest conditions thrown at them by Storm Dennis, hot on the heals of their North West Regional Championship. The bustling Lancashire college has hosted the championships for two years but this was by far the largest gathering of para competition yet. Over 175 entries were received with 160 actual starters over the four days of competition – quite a rate of growth from 40 four years ago.

Spencer Wilton and his Rio 2016 ride, Super Nova, made a winning return to international competition at Lier CDI4* in Belgium (26 February – 1 March 2020), with Great Britain largely dominating the top Big Tour placings.

Following our update on Friday, unfortunately the Head Office connectivity issues experienced over the weekend have yet to be resolved.

The FEI have confirmed that the mouthpieces and cheek pieces as listed under Annex A of the FEI Eventing Rules for 2020, are the only ones permitted for the dressage phase of FEI competition. 

The weather was kind to competitors at Weston Lawns on Sunday 23rd February for the Baileys Horse Feeds Arena Eventing Championship. Open to both BE Members and non-members, competitors in Arena Eventing first complete a round of show jumps immediately followed by a cross country course, finishing over a show jump 'joker fence' set at 10cm higher than the rest of the course. 

We are currently experiencing drop outs in connectivity to the network in the building which may affect members trying to make entries with the validations. We are working with our suppliers to rectify the issue.

Following the recent adverse weather, British Eventing would like to reassure members that we are closely monitoring the weather and ground conditions at the early season events.

It has been a busy start to the 2020 season for the Stafford Horse Trials team with lots of work going into the ground ahead of the first event! The team have been really pleased with how the park has coped with the recent weather, and its position has meant that the location has been fortunate enough not to suffer from any flooding and that it is open to good drying winds.

The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) today confirms that Vikki Underwood, Performance Director to the BEF’s World Class Programme, has left the organisation.

Following an inspection by BE Officials this morning (Friday) the ground at Calmsden is currently looking good. The team are aware of the overnight forecast and a further precautionary inspection will be taking place at 5:30am on Saturday 12th October.

Emma Hindle was indomitable in the Big Tour classes at last week’s Keysoe CDI in Bedfordshire (4 – 6 October 2019). The prolific Grand Prix rider, who has Senior European team medals to her name and was highest placed Brit at the Beijing Olympic Games, won both Friday’s Grand Prix and Saturday’s Grand Prix Freestyle with her current top ride, Romy Del Sol (pictured). Emma and the Romanov x Danny De Vito 13 year old, who’ve shown consistency all year on the Continent with top placings at Lier, Nieuw en Sint Joosland, Compiègne and Wiesbaden, took the Grand Prix in convincing style. A score of 71.13% was theirs to give them a clear lead in front of Sadie Smith with Keystone Dynamite (68.91%), making their CDI debut, and Rebecca Hughes with Rubini Royale (66.17%) in third. Saturday night at Keysoe, all eyes were on the Grand Prix Freestyle. Once again, Emma and Romy Del Sol put on a show-stopping performance - this time to their Lady Gaga-inspired freestyle soundtrack. They showed good regularity, power and suppleness through piaffe turns, steep half passes and one and a half turn pirouettes, all presented with an overall picture of harmony for 73.30%, and victory, the elegant mare appearing to have matured and strengthened over recent months. Sadie Smith held her own once again to take second, and Maria Eilberg and Royal Concert put up a superb challenge with a Gary Patterson-produced Rod Stewart compilation for a very close third. In the Small Tour, Gareth Hughes so impressed with his own and Judy Firmston-Williams’ young talent, Sintano Van Hof Olympia (by Sandro Hit). The exciting partnership, who won the Saracen Horse Feeds Inter I at Stoneleigh, dominated with identically scored wins of 73.94% in the PSG and Inter I, then a cracking 76.38% in the Inter I Freestyle. “He is such a talented horse and we are excited about his future,” says Gareth. Next stop for the pair – Le Mans CDI in France. Lewis Carrier and his 2018 FEI European Championship Young Rider horse, Diego V, continued to display their U25s promise with second in the U25 Inter II, and wins in both the U25 Grand Prix and Freestyle. “After a bit of a slow start to our Keysoe CDI in the Inter II on the first day, we ironed out a few silly mistakes to come away with two out of three wins in the U25 Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle,” said Lewis on Lewis Carrier Dressage Facebook. “Almost again hitting that 70% but were denied by our 1s [one-tempi changes] today. “[I’m] Looking forward to coming out next year after a winter’s training as I know our piaffe and passage are nowhere near where they need to be to compete at the top level, but pleased to get decent scores and have a great start to our U25 campaign.” Great Britain’s Sarah Khairallah and the evergreen Dimaggio-sired mare, Darling (19), were outstanding winners of the Young Rider Team Test with 68.725%, but it was Clare Hole who rose to the top in the Individual and Freestyle, winning both with her mother Rachel Murray’s Winnetou GEP (Gribaldi x Donnerhall) with scores of 68.48% and 71.13%. British Junior, Maddy Frewin, brought a touch of Bollywood to Bedfordshire with her 72.65% winning Freestyle aboard Woodlander Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, which followed a Team Test win and second place to Jessie Kirby and Belle Amie who scored 68.77% to win the Individual. In the Pony riders’ tournament, BD Northern Region rider Martha Jobling-Purser, representing Ireland, was victorious in the Team and Individual Tests with Yorkie Jobling-Purser’s Valido’s Starlight. Martha and ‘Star’, who competed as individuals for Ireland at this year’s FEI Pony European Championships, delivered two winning tests with 69.381% and 70.76%. British combinations, Gracie Morgan and Ella, and Betsy Smetham with Amber were in hot pursuit in the Pony Team Test, but each day, Syrah Van De Rovaart and Donna Daria 8 made up ground to ultimately top the Freestyle podium for the Netherlands on a score of 71.16%. Natasha Baker has enjoyed a winning return to international competition with a clean sweep of the 3* Grade III classes at Keysoe CPEDI3*/2*/1* in Bedfordshire (1 – 3 October 2019). With her new ride, Keystone Dawn Chorus (pictured), she won the Team, Individual and Freestyle tests with scores of 72.71%, 73.68% and 76.47% respectively, cementing the partnership that’s shown so much early promise. “She [Keystone Dawn Chorus] has gone above and beyond my expectations and has been an absolute pro!” said Natasha on her Natasha Baker MBE – Paralympic Dressage Rider Facebook page. “She has blown me away with her attitude and her professionalism, it’s like she’s done it all before.” The Dimaggio x Escudo eight year old, who’s known at home as Lottie, was purchased in March by Child’s Farm, Christian Landolt and the Baker family as a prospective FEI championship partner for Natasha. In their short time together, they’ve formed an effective and trusting alliance, qualifying for and coming second in the Dodson & Horrell Novice Silver at the LeMieux National Championships, then following a couple of dry runs in national para classes, this emphatic Keysoe hat-trick. In the CPEDI3* Grade II, Georgia Wilson – our Rotterdam Grade II Freestyle gold medallist – was unbeatable, winning all three tests by considerable margin with her European Championship ride, Midnight, with scores of 74.21%, 74.53% and 74.84%, whilst Singapore’s Laurentia Tan and Banestro broke the British stronghold by producing three knockout tests in the CPEDI3* Grade I. Nicola Naylor celebrated a fantastic week in which she not only dominated the CPEDI2* Grade IV with 11 year old Flemmingh-sired Del Piero, but also staked her claim in the 3* with Amadeus, winning the Grade IV Individual. Sunday 6 October marked the conclusion of the Caunton Manor Stud British Eventing Six and Seven Year Old Championships at Osberton International Horse Trials, and experience showed with familiar faces claiming the prestigious titles.

Sadly the decision has been made to abandon all competition due to take place on 6 October at Dauntsey Horse Trials.
